What are the Ovaries?

They are olive sized organs and gonads that are attached to both sides of the uterus. They are responsible for secreting estrogen which assist in female physical development and the maturation and maintenance of the reproductive organs as a mature adult, and progesterone which works with estrogen by instructing the endometrium’s (an inner membrane of the uterus) cycle changes as well maintaining the endometruim’s health during menstruation and pregnancy. They as well develop and release eggs or “ova” once a month starting the menstrual cycle. They take turns normally, but if one ovary is gone or damaged, the other will take over the process.
